Mullins Lawyers Advises Stacked Farm on Landmark Vertical Farming Project at Melbourne Airport

Mullins Lawyers has confirmed its role in assisting Stacked Farm with the development of a groundbreaking $150 million green energy-powered indoor vertical farming facility at Melbourne Airport.

This state-of-the-art project is poised to become the southern hemisphere’s largest facility of its kind, setting a new benchmark for sustainable agriculture and food production in Australia.

As Australia’s first end-to-end automated vertical farming company, Stacked Farm is leading the way in high-tech, climate-resilient food production. The new Melbourne facility will significantly increase Stacked Farm’s capacity to supply premium leafy greens and herbs to major retailers, hospitality venues, and food service providers across the country—all while operating with a fraction of the land and water required by traditional farms.

Mullins Lawyers played a key advisory role, assisting with property and project financing—two critical workstreams in bringing this cutting-edge facility to life. The firm’s expertise in complex transactions, regulatory compliance, and strategic funding arrangements was instrumental in ensuring the project’s success.

The Mullins team was led by Partner, Fiona Sears (Property and Hospitality) and Partner, Paul Lutvey (Finance), with valuable support from Special Counsel, Gordon Perkins and Senior Associate, Isaac Day.

Commenting on the deal, Fiona Sears said:

“It was a pleasure working with Stacked Farm on this market-leading development. We are proud to support such an innovative company at the forefront of changing the way food is produced in Australia. This facility marks a significant step forward in sustainable agriculture, and we look forward to seeing Stacked Farm’s products revolutionise the industry.”

This project further cements Mullins Lawyers’ reputation as a trusted legal advisor for groundbreaking developments in agribusiness, technology, and sustainability-driven ventures. The firm’s ability to navigate complex property transactions and secure innovative financing solutions highlights its commitment to supporting forward-thinking businesses that are shaping the future.
